Daniel Sherman
Daniel Sherman currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts, having recently relocated from the southwest. This comes after he completed his coursework as part of the Doctorate of Musical Arts program at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music, where he also served as the trombone studio’s teaching assistant for three years. As a teaching assistant, Daniel taught undergraduate individual lessons, coached various chamber music groups, and co-taught brass methods courses for undergraduate music education majors.
As a teaching philosophy, Daniel sees the importance of professional performing experience and playing consistency as the keys to lasting success in music. Throughout his time in Tucson, Daniel was a sought-after performer in a variety of large ensemble settings inside and outside school, including the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the Saguaro Brass Choir, and the University of Arizona Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel has also had the opportunity to perform as part of smaller ensembles, as well as touring acts coming through Tucson, including performances with the Marie Osmond Orchestra, The Pete Swan Big Band, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Quintet, and the University of Arizona’s Graduate Brass Ensemble.
Daniel is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Trombone Performance from the University of Arizona. He also holds degrees from the University of Florida (M.M.), and Penn State (B.M.E. and Professional Performer’s Certificate). He attributes all his recent success to his trombone teachers, including Prof. Michael Becker, Dr. Erik Shinn, and Prof. Mark Lusk.
