Songs of Inspiration in a Troubled Time
As sung on the trombone by Professor Mark Lusk

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father
Which art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day, our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever,
Amen.

Comfort Ye

Comfort ye
Comfort ye, my people.
Comfort ye
Comfort ye, my people.
Saith your God, saith your God,
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem.
Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem,
And cry unto her that her that her warfare,
Her warfare is accomplished.
That her iniquity is pardoned.
That her iniquity is pardoned.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,

Recitative: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Ev’ry Valley

Ev’ry valley
Ev’ry valley shall be exalted.
Shall be exalted
Shall be exalted
Shall be exalted
And ev’ry mountain and hill made low,
The crooked straight and the rough places plain.
The crooked straight,
The crooked straight and the rough places plain.
And the rough places plain.
Ev’ry valley
Ev’ry valley shall be exalted.
Ev’ry valley
Ev’ry valley shall be exalted.
And ev’ry mountain and hill made low,
The crooked straight, the crooked straight,
The crooked straight and the rough places plain.
And the rough places plain, and the rough places plain,
The crooked straight and the rough places plain.

How Beautiful (suggested contemplations from the composer)

Isiah 52:7
How beautiful on the mountain are the feet of those who bring good news
Who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation,
Who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

1 Corinthians 13:13
Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love.

If I speak with the tongues of humans and angels

Wenn ich mit Menschen - und mit Engelzungen redete;
meinen Leib brennen
und hätte der Liebe nicht,
so wäre mir's nichts nütze.
Wir sehen jetzt durch einen Spiegel in einem dunklen Worte,
dann aber von Angesicht zu Angesichte.
Jetzt erkenne ich's stückweise;
dann aber werde ichs erkennen, gleichwie ich erkannt bin.
Nun aber bleibet Glaube, Hoffnung, Liebe, diese drei;
aber die Liebe ist die größeste unter ihnen,
die Liebe ist die größeste unter ihnen.

Biblical Translation:
If I do not have love, I gain nothing

The first Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 12:31-13:8a

Brothers and sisters: Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.

You Raise Me Up

When I am down and oh, my soul so weary,
When troubles come and my heart burdened be,
Then I am still and wait here in the silence until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.
There is no life, no life without its hunger.
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly,
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up so I can stand on mountains.
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas.
And I am strong when I am on your shoulders.
You raise me up to more than I can be.
You raise me up to more than I can be.

Second half:

Days of Plenty

I never dreamed of this sorrow.
I never thought I’d have a reason to lament. I hoped I’d never know heartbreak.
How I wish I could change the way things went.
I wanted nothing but goodness.
I wanted reason to prevail.
Not this bare emptiness. I wanted days of plenty.
But I refuse to feel tragic.
I am aching for more than pain and grief. There has got to be meaning.
Most of all when a life has been so brief. I have got to learn something.
How can I give her any less?
I want life to go on.
I want days of plenty.
You have to believe there is reason for hope.
You have to believe that the answers will come.
You can’t let this defeat you.
I won’t let this defeat you.
You must fight to keep her there within you.
So believe that she mattered and believe that she always will.
She will always be with you.
She’ll be part of the days you’ve yet to fill.
She will live in your bounty.
She will live as you carry on your life.
So carry on, full of hope.
She’ll be there
For all your days of plenty.

Make Them Hear You

Go out and tell our story Let it echo far and wide Make them hear you Make them hear you
How Justice was our battle And how Justice was denied Make them hear you Make them hear you
And say to those who blame us For the way we chose to fight, That sometimes there are battles That are more than black or white
And I could not put down my sword When Justice was my right Make them hear you
Go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons Make them hear you Make them hear you
And tell them, "In our struggle, We were not the only ones" Make them hear you Make them hear you
Your sword could be a sermon Or the power of the pen Teach every child to raise his voice And then my brothers, then
Will justice be demanded by ten million riteous men Make them hear you- When they hear you, I'll be near you Again

Wheels of A Dream

I see his face. I hear his heartbeat.
I look in those eyes. How wise they seem.
Well, when he is old enough,
I will show him America
And we will ride on the wheels of a dream.
We’ll go down south and see your people.
Won’t they take to him like cats to cream!
Then we’ll travel on from there
And we will ride on the wheels of a dream.
Yes, the wheels are turning for us, girl,
And the times are starting to roll.
Any man can get where he wants to if he’s got some fire in his soul.
We’ll see justice, Sarah,
And plenty of men who will stand up and give us our due!
Oh, swear that it’s more than promises. Swear that it must be true.
A country that lets a man like me own a car, raise a child,
Build a life with you.
With Kaitlyn:
With you.
Beyond that road, beyond this lifetime.
This time full of hope will always gleam with the promise of happiness
And the freedom he’ll live to know.
He’ll travel with head held high, just as far as his heart can go
And he will ride, our son will ride on the wheels of the dream.

No More Night

The timeless theme, earth and heaven will pass away.
It’s not a dream, God will make all things new that day.
Gone is the curse for which I stumbled and fell.
Evil is banished to eternal hell.
No more night, no more pain.
No more tears, never crying again.
And praises to the Great I am!
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.
See all around, all the nations bow down to sing.
The only sound is the praises to Christ, our King.
Slowly, the names from the book are read.
I know the King, so there’s no need, no need to dread!
No more nigh, no more pain.
No more tears, never crying again.
And praises to the Great I am!
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.
See over there!
There’s a mansion, oh, that’s prepared just for me, where I will live
With my Savior eternally!
And there will be no more night,
No more pain and no more, no more tears.
Never, never crying again.
Praises to the Great I am!
We will live in the light of the risen Lamb. Oh, the praises to the Great I am!
We’re gonna live in the light, the risen Lamb!
